Spiti Valley Summer Escape
Chitkul, Nako, Tabo, Kaza, Key Monastery, Kunzum Pass and Chandratal on a summer road trip through Spiti Valley.
Spiti is a cold desert valley high in the Himalaya, where whitewashed villages and centuries-old monasteries sit against bare mountain walls. Key Monastery, Kibber, Langza and Chandratal are the classic stops, and the drive itself is a big part of the experience.
Because of the altitude, a slow pace and a day or two of acclimatisation matter. Road access depends on the season, so we plan the route around your dates.
A large hilltop monastery above the Spiti river and the main sight of Kaza.
A crescent-shaped high-altitude lake, best enjoyed with a night at camp.
One of the highest villages with a motorable road and a dramatic gorge bridge.
High villages with open views, fossils in the hills and small monasteries.
Old monasteries, including cliff-top Dhankar and the ancient Tabo complex.
