Spiti Valley Summer Escape
Chitkul, Nako, Tabo, Kaza, Key Monastery, Kunzum Pass and Chandratal on a summer road trip through Spiti Valley.
Kalpa looks straight across the valley at the Kinnaur Kailash range, which turns gold at sunrise. Further along the Baspa river, Chitkul is the last inhabited village on the old Indo-Tibet road, with wooden houses and open mountain views.
This is a slower, high-altitude route through Kinnaur, best done with a few nights on the way so the drives stay comfortable.
The range glows at sunrise and sunset, directly across the valley from Kalpa.
A short walk from Kalpa through orchards to a traditional village.
Apple orchards, wooden temples and the Baspa river running through.
The last inhabited village on the old Indo-Tibet road, with open mountain views.
A clear, fast river that follows the valley up to Chitkul.
